Trailer Reaction: Will Power Rangers show what T.M.N.T. could have been?

Bringing a hit TV series from the 1980s or 1990s back for a 21st-century update on the big screen has been a difficult task for some, but maybe Power Rangers will hit all the right notes this summer.

It’s been done before with Transformers and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and it is about to be done once again with the Power Rangers. Yes, Hollywood is once again looking to tug at your nostalgic heartstrings in hopes you will come and see what they have done with the Power Rangers. Once the fun and slightly goofy martial arts superhero program with fighting robots and monsters, the Power Rangers are now all grown up and getting a bit of a facelift with some modern movie magic. As someone who considered the original Power Rangers something of a guilty pleasure in the 90s and has not kept up with the many versions of them since, I admit I was mildly interested at best when I heard a brand new movie was being put together.

The first trailer was fine, but it didn’t convince me I need to get to the theater to see Power Rangers. But this second trailer? I can safely say I am far more willing to give Power Rangers a chance.

This was a well-done trailer that seemed to give enough of a taste without (hopefully) giving away any big reveals. And yes, Power Rangers fans already know there are a couple of characters not shown in this, which should be just fine. If this movie is a hit for Lionsgate, then I would imagine there is plenty of room to work with some future storylines that should be familiar. But more to the point, this simply looks like it could be a fun movie, and that’s all I would want out of Power Rangers.

What do you think about the latest trailer? We’ll talk about it on the next podcast, but feel free to give us your thoughts with a comment. And while you are at it, don’t forget to check out the trailer reaction for the latest Logan trailer.

Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24. You can view the trailer here.
